Myself and my God lived in a specially arranged world in which everything fit together, says Pastor Tomas Ericsson, the protagonist of Winter Light. That world, as well as the God he believed in, is long gone, and he, abiding in a desolate reality, confronts the illusory nature of his former world-images.

Alongside the clergyman confronting his disbelief stand three conditionally twin characters. Marta Lundberg, an atheist experiencing a miracle from a God she does not believe in. Jonas Persson, a depressed man, terrified by the vision of nuclear war looming on the horizon. Algot Frövik, a sexton suffering from a spinal condition who reads about the passion of Christ to overcome persistent insomnia.

Winter Light is a story of people contemplating the void left by hope. A meditation on a condition suspended between a once-present hope and its perceived present lack. A tale of hopes compromised, lost. And about those possible ones that have remained unnoticed.

In this adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's screenplay, four characters once again experience the events recounted in the original film, and through an extended vivisection of the world and their place in it, search for what they missed at the time. It is a theatrical story that remains in relation to the film original - a journey through the scenes and landscapes recorded in the film, which offers a multi-perspective view of the world and the characters.
