The Detroit act Wolf Eyes has achieved legendary status within the American DIY noise scene since its formation in 1996, helping define the vocabulary of 21th century experimental music with their eclectic and incredibly large body of work that spans across all understandings of 'noise'. Initially a solo project by Nate Young, Wolf Eyes currently comprises him and John Olson; in the 2000s, its lineup included noise luminary Aaron Dilloway. Their discography spans over 200 releases, ranging from instrumental free improv through esoteric noise rock to harsh, power electronics-evoking noise; it includes collaborations with Black Dice, Merzbow, Prurient and Anthony Braxton. In the late 2010s, Wolf Eyes gained new popularity from their Instagram meme page @wolf_eyes_psychojazz, whose fanbase arguably outgrew the band's.
