Regis is probably the most famous moniker of British producer, DJ and label head Karl O'Connor, who is also one of the architects of what is known as the Birmingham sound, a combination of Chicago house and darker European electronics. Together with his colleague Peter Sutton he founded the label Downwards in 1993. The imprint quickly grew and became more and more influential in the British techno scene. The two producers work primary with a small circle of artists sharing their vision.
O'Connor has been making music since the early 90s and has since then developed a multi-layered and tonal sound which has become his trademark. Besides his collaborations with Peter Sutton, Regis works with various artists such as Silent Servant, Female and Function and joined the Sandwell District label in 2002. Together with Summer he also performs under the Sandwell District alias as a DJ duo. O'Connor is also part of many other projects with different musicians.
