The gripping story of František Kriegel, a doctor and politician, depicts the dramatic events of 21 August 1968, when he was arrested at night together with the top leaders of the Communist Party (Alexander Dubček, Oldřich Černík, Josef Smrkovský, Josef Špaček, Bohumil Šimon) and kidnapped to Moscow. He was the only Czechoslovak politician who defied Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev in captivity and under threat of liquidation and did not sign the Moscow Protocol, a document signifying consent to the occupation of Czechoslovakia. The film drama starring Tomas Töpfer exposes the monstrosity of the communist regime, focusing on the hero of the Prague Spring and the most gruesome period of his life and the contemporary history of Czechoslovakia.
