O Cruachan

Cruachan is the name of the Irish folk metal/celtic metal band founded in 1992, Keith Fay after the collapse of Minas Tirith, existing since 1989.

Cruachan mixes Celtic music, history and mythology, with black metal. Norwegian black metal influences in their music fade gradually, and certainly many fans considered to be only the first album by the Norwegian black metal of the Tuatha On Gael. Their current music is very melodic, with softer vocals on which credit Karen Gilliganová, which came into the band after the release of the Tuatha On Gael. Norwegian black metal elements remain in some songs, such as the main vocals in the title song of the album Pagan.

The name Cruachan comes from probably the ancient city, which was the capital of the Kingdom of Connacht Irish. Many of the songs refers to the history of this Kingdom, as the Cattle Raid of Cooley, which is the event from Irish mythology. Cruachan lyrics also refer to Viking era, the invasion of the Vikings to Ireland, and Dublin's defeat of the Vikings at the battle of Clontarf, Brian Boruem.

Other songs talk about the other events of the Irish history, such as the so-called The Troubles and Irish myths and legends. Some songs also stands on the themes of the works, such as Tolkienových.
