O Fu Manchu
Fu Manchu are a stoner rock band from California. The band went through many changes of the line-up in its early years, whereby the only remaining original member is Scott Hill. Since Scott Reeder has joined the band in 2001 the line-up has stayed constant. The band was founded in 1985 as a hardcore punk outfit with the name Virulence.
The music of Fu Manchu can be categorized as stoner rock. the guitar riffs are often simple, but a pushing guitar sound paired with slow, viscous rhythms is characterizing their music. Their style is inspired by rock bands such as Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer or Led Zeppelin but also by hardcore outfits of the 80s and the Californian surf and skate scene since the 70s. The band's lyrics often thematize movies from the 70s, so-called b-movies, Southern California and life there, skateboards, surfing, cars, women, paranormal phenomenons such as UFOs of big foot, poker games and band internal topics.
