Jiří Černický (1966) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, he holds the Soros prize, Jindřicha Chalupecký Award and the October Salon award from Belgrade. He graduated from a number of study-abroad residencies, in Berlin, the USA and the Netherlands. Currently he is a professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
Jiří Černický is proof that painting, today, can be approached in a lively and innovative way that brings interesting results. Černický's work is full of creative transformations, extreme gestures and peculiar humor. In each of his works lies a strong story in level of content, but also on a level of finding adequate means of expression. He creates as if in phases - strong conceptual installations alternate with the seemingly lightweight and aesthetically painting projects.
