Poliça & Stargaze

Poliça is considered a dark, mystical electro band. The quintet from Minneapolis combines R'n'B and Soul, alienates the vocals, contributes a rock guitar and lets the drums stamp hip-hop beats to rise to ethereal heights and get lost in monumental, electronic soundscapes. On three albums so far, the artists explore different genres and connect music styles of all kinds. And they do not shy away from the classical modern age. In 2017, the Steve Reich interpretation Bruise Blood, which Poliça recorded together with s t a r g a z e, was released.

s t a r g a z e is a constantly changing collective from Berlin, which has devoted itself to chamber music in all modern varieties. Over time, they noticed that contemporary pop, especially in its electronic form and unconventional design, is increasingly approaching what constitutes the musical core of the collective. So the musicians around co-founder and conductor André de Ridder began to approach the pop music. They performed, among others, David Bowie's last album Black Star and arranged it for orchestra, for which they could win Anna Calvi as a singer.

The latest creation of s t a r g a z e is now the collaboration with Poliça and the joint album Music For The Long Emergency. Over a period of one and a half years, sound files went around the world, only occasionally the musicians came together for rehearsals in different places - in Berlin, Minneapolis and Eau Claire - to advance the pieces. The result is an album with a very strong and independent sound, which brings the character of the participating orchestra and especially the voice of Poliças singer Channy Leaneagh to full effect.
